Born in the parish of Manchester, Dr. Ray Fraser attended Kingston College and went on to obtain his Bachelor of Science Degree at the University of the West Indies. On completion, he was awarded a scholarship to study Medicine in Havana, Cuba. Dr. Fraser later pursued graduate studies in Surgery in Edinburgh, Scotland.
On completing his studies as a Medical Doctor, Dr. Fraser returned to Jamaica where he was employed in the government service. He has served honourably in the public service working at Mandeville Public, University and the Kingston Public Hospitals. He has also served across the island in other Public Hospitals including the St. Ann’s Bay Hospital, Falmouth and Princess Margaret Public Hospitals. He has been the Senior Medical Officer for the Annotto Bay Hospital for the last 18 years. Dr. Fraser’s tenure at the facility has resulted in several infrastructural upgrades and cooperative partnerships that have improved the services available to the users of that facility.
He has been awarded Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh.
Dr. Fraser’s involvement in community work and health developments resulted in him receiving the Mayor’s Medal in 2007.As a person of unquestionable integrity who seeks to promote and protect the rights of individuals in a particular community, Dr. Fraser was appointeda Justice of the Peace (JP).
Dr. Ray Fraser further distinguished himself by receiving a National Order, The sixth in order of precedence of the Orders of Societies of Honour, The Order of Distinction, conferred upon citizens of Jamaica who have rendered outstanding and important services to Jamaica, Dr. Fraser is a Consultant General & Laparoscopic Surgeon, and is a Director of Winchester Surgical & Medical Institute.
